Who do you trust? Sisters of the Perilous Heart is about family, friends, and magic. Eighteen-year-old Queen Vivian is fighting off the Immortality Virus, and she and her bickering brothers are on a desperate hunt for enough magic to make the cure permanent. Sixteen-year-old Carina is fleeing with her sister from the Immortal Red-Eyed Ones, struggling to rein in her magic, contending with a blue-eyed boy who lies to her, and seriously craving sassafras beer. They both have a lot to learn, maybe from each other. If only the Queen of South Kepler didn’t have a bad reputation for imprisoning rogue magicians in the dungeons…

Queen Vivian
Vivian was much happier as a princess than a queen, but now that she’s eighteen, she has no choice but to accept the title her father, King Herschel, left her when he died. Unfortunately, things haven’t gotten off to a good start for Vivian. She’s only the Queen of South Kepler for two minutes before Immortal assassins infiltrate her coronation ceremony and nearly kill her with an arrow through her chest.
Thankfully, Vivian’s younger brother, Prince Bastian, has healing magic. But Vivian is infected with the Immortality Virus now, and even Bast doesn’t have enough magic to cure that. Now Vivian and her brothers are on a desperate mission to find more magic and save Vivian’s life.
Prince Bastian
Fifteen-year-old Prince Bastian is cool, confident, and the family prodigy for sure. With a special talent for healing and a telepathic ability to detect when someone is lying, Bast is someone you definitely want on your side. That’s fine for Vivian, because Bast is closer to her than he is to anyone else in the universe. He’ll do anything he can to save her life. Anything.
But if you aren’t on Bast’s side? Well, watch out. Bast isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty when necessary, and he commands power like he was born with a crown on his head. Which he almost was. Still, his brother Nate can’t manage that kind of charisma. A deeply religious person, Bast prays for the Queen to live a long life and for his brother not to do anything to screw it up.
Prince Nathanial
At sixteen, Prince Nathanial (who would prefer to be called Nate, thanks) is a general disappointment. He’s too impulsive to be trusted with his hot magic. He doesn’t understand how to be a royal. He has what he thinks is a cool telepathic ability, but no one else thinks it’s very impressive. Nate doesn’t understand why. His ability to communicate with animals is awesome.
Nate’s not in a good place. The only person in his immediate family who really cares about him at all is his sister, Queen Vivian, and now she’s in serious trouble. Nate might not have much talent, but he’ll do anything he can to help Bast save Viv’s life. After all…if Vivian dies, Nate is next in line for the throne, and no one (especially Nate) wants him to be the next King of South Kepler.

Carina Garcia wanted a sip of sassafras beer. She got a magical adventure across Kepler. Who's joining her? Max, a boy with very pretty eyes, and Carina's sister, Miguela, who doesn't like magic and doesn't like Max!

Carina Garcia
At sixteen, Carina Garcia has a lot of magic. A lot of magic she has no idea how to use or control. Her guardians, the Sisters of Novi Dupree, have always discouraged her from using her magic, which they think is dangerous. After all, if Carina ever leaves Novi Dupree Sanctuary, the immortal Red-Eyed Ones will be able to sense her magic, and she’ll become a target for the Immortal Empire. But the magic that makes her a target could also protect her IF she can learn how to use it.
What else do the Sisters keep from Carina? Sassafras beer. The best sassafras beer on the planet Kepler. Carina is almost as desperate for sassafras as she is to learn magic. Lucky she has an amazing plan: to use magic to steal a bottle of sassafras beer. What could go wrong with that?
Miguela Garcia
Thirteen-year-old Miguela Garcia doesn’t have Carina’s magic, and that’s fine with her. Actually, she’d appreciate if Carina would stop trying to alert every Red-Eyed One in the area that a girl with magic is nearby. Miguela never forgets why she and Carina are at Novi Dupree Sanctuary: their parents were killed by Red-Eyed Ones six years ago. Magic isn’t something you should mess around with.
Then things get worse when Carina goes and invites a stranger back to Novi Dupree. And as if that’s not bad enough, the stranger is a teenage boy. Novi Dupree is a sanctuary for women! Miguela immediately distrusts Max. What is he doing here anyway? As far as she’s concerned, the sooner they can lose him, the better!
Max Kozlov
Max can’t believe his luck: of all the places to get lost in the Red Ridge Mountains, he managed to get lost right by an old shack that no one has used in years. Bonus: whoever was there last left a ton of sassafras beer inside and lots of canned food. He’s all set while he regroups.
It all gets better when the prettiest girl Max has ever seen starts hanging out nearby. At first, he doesn’t know how to say hello. He spends an entire afternoon trying to figure out how to do it while she tries to magic a bottle of sassafras away from the very shack he’s hiding out in. The operation isn’t exactly a success, and Max knows he’s not incredibly smooth, but he’s going to do his best to make that girl like him!
